چکیده

This paper overviews the motion vector coding and block merging techniques in Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard developed by Joint Experts Team (JVET). In general, inter-prediction VVC can be classified into two major groups: “whole block-based inter prediction” “subblock-based prediction”. this paper, we focus on for whole prediction. As its predecessor, High Efficiency (HEVC), prediction is represented adaptive (AMVP) mode or merge mode. Newly introduced features purely AMVP include symmetric difference resolution. The pairwise average merge, with difference, combined inter-intra geometric partitioning tools such as history-based bidirectional unit weights applied both discusses design principles implementation of new methods. Using objective metrics, simulation results show that methods overviewed jointly achieve 6.2% 4.7% BD-rate savings random access low-delay configurations, respectively. Significant subjective picture quality improvements some are also reported when comparing resulting pictures at same bitrates.

Optimizing motion-vector accuracy in block-based video coding

In classical block-based video coding, one motion vector per image block is used to improve the prediction of the frame to be coded. These motion vectors and the resulting motion-compensated difference frame must be encoded with bits. All motion vectors are encoded with the same fixed accuracy, typically 1 or 1/2 pixel accuracy, but the best motion vector accuracies are not known. In this paper...

Layer-correlated motion estimation and motion vector coding for the 3D-wavelet video coding

This paper proposes an efficient layer-correlated scheme to reduce the bit cost for motion vectors in the 3D wavelet coding. Previous works show that incorporating motion alignment into the lifting structure enables the 3D wavelet coding to provide a competitive performance to the state-of-the-art JVT standard. In general, the temporal wavelet decomposition consists of multiple layers, while ea...

Block Merging Motion Estimation for Fast Mode Decision in H.264/AVC Video Coding

Recent video coding standards have introduced the notion of variable block size motion estimation in order to improve the coding efficiency. However, supporting various block sizes significantly increases the encoder computational complexity. H.264/AVC supports seven different block sizes for inter frame coding. This paper proposes an efficient block merging method for motion estimation resulti...

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Efficient Block Size Selection in H.264 Video Coding Standard

This letter aims at selecting an efficient variable block size mode in H.264 video coding standard for better compression performance. The proposed scheme is based on 3D Recursive Search algorithm and takes into account the motion vector cost and previous frame information. The best mode for the current macroblock is obtained by analyzing the modes for a maximum of four macroblocks in the curre...
